Finalized second revision. Here are two cosmetic versions of this game: * The original version, .res files located in the "original" directory * The eGames version, .res files located in the "egames" directory Should mention cosmetic differences: * Original version has Prince Drake without the red mask, duck bill is orange, and has a somewhat open mouth when idle, running, and looking up; the place where he resides is called LoonVille. * eGames version has Prince Drake donning a red mask, duck bill is yellow and its shape is subtly changed, and has a grin on his face when idle and running and an open smile when looking up; the place where he resides is called Ducktropolis. File timestamps: * Original version (DOS): Unknown * Original version (Windows): EPISODE1.RES - 12/09/1996, 05:28:06 AM EPISODE2.RES - 12/09/1996, 05:28:42 AM EPISODE3.RES - 12/09/1996, 05:29:08 AM EPISODE4.RES - 12/09/1996, 05:29:36 AM EPISODE5.RES - 12/09/1996, 05:29:56 AM EPISODE6.RES - 12/09/1996, 02:32:36 PM EPISODE7.RES - 12/09/1996, 05:30:56 AM MISC.RES - 12/09/1996, 11:24:32 AM * eGames version: EPISODE1.RES - 08/17/1999, 02:26:42 PM EPISODE2.RES - 06/25/1999, 10:39:14 PM EPISODE3.RES - 06/25/1999, 10:39:24 PM EPISODE4.RES - 08/16/1999, 01:04:58 AM EPISODE5.RES - 06/25/1999, 10:39:38 PM EPISODE6.RES - 06/25/1999, 10:39:44 PM EPISODE7.RES - 06/25/1999, 10:39:54 PM MISC.RES - 08/16/1999, 01:04:50 AM What are the Original and eGames versions? The original version is what was shipped with the original 1997 DOS and Windows versions, while the eGames version is what was shipped with the eGames 2000 DOS release. Strangely, I suspect the eGames release is from a scene release, as the DRAKECHT.LST file is still intact, but the original .nfo is gone entirely (I added it back in for completion purposes, lol). Also, I assume the original DOS release is quite rare as it may have been quickly replaced with a Windows release within the same year. As for the eGames version, I suspect these cosmetic changes are primarily because of possible copyright issues. I will need an original eGames release CD to determine if it was born from the known scene release by REFLUX. It's very likely, as some files bear the same 1/17/1997 timestamp from the scene release date, but still... Crazy Drake v1.1? There is a v1.1 shareware release of Crazy Drake floating around on the Internet, but the only real difference so far is the elevator sequence. After the elevator operator boots Drake out and he lands on the ground, a quacking voice effect plays instead of the Plucky Duck-like sounding "Ouch!" voice effect like in v1.0. This is not changed for any retail release, DOS or Windows; the original Windows release actually uses the resource files from the DOS release, as noted in VERSION.TXT located on the original Windows release CD. There is also no known patch for this game to even bring it to v1.1. Heck, v1.1 still has v1.0 on the title screen, so other than shareware implementations, very little had actually ever been changed. Archival procedures taken for this release: * removed savegame files (as a result, SAVEPICS.DAT and SAVEGAME.DAT are removed as well; these are created after first game save) * replaced HSCORES.DAT file (file is from the Crazy Drake 1.0 Shareware release, otherwise an error displays on startup and may not record scores beforehand) * removed DRAKE.CFG file (setup.exe will generate a new file anyway) * moved existing .res files from the root directory to a new directory called "egames" * added .res files from my legit copy of an original Windows release of Crazy Drake to a new directory called "original" * added the crzydrak.nfo file back into this release * Created a batch file (INSTALL.BAT) for easy installation and management. Installation: * As noted in the .nfo, this game can only run in real mode (MS-DOS mode for Windows machines). For DOSBox, no further changes are needed. * Copy the .res files from the directory you want to the root directory of this game. If in a DOS prompt, go to the game's top level directory and type: "copy x\*.* ." without quotes. For x, replace with: egames for the eGames cosmetic release original for the original cosmetic release * You must run setup.exe to set up the sound card before running the game! * Otherwise, I have created a batch file for easy installation and management. Cheats! Looked into the DOS executable and noticed some apparent undocumented cheats in the file. I will list the known ones with my clarifications in a few, then the undocumented ones next. Known cheats: ENTERSANDMAN = God Mode (Makes you invulnerable to hits but not falling into pits) NEUROTECH = Free Life (Self-explanatory. Grants one extra life up to 20 total.) DRAKENUKEM = Refills Time (for bonus stages; 30 sec is default time length) PLUGANDPRAY = Free Smart Bomb (Note: since the P key is bound to pause the game, press the P key twice in a 1- or 2-second delay, e.g., press the P key again after the game is paused. You can only have max 5 smart bombs.) RADIOHEAD = Finishes Level (and sends you to the next one, of course.) ONEREALITY = Refills Life (to 100%) Undocumented cheats: IDKFA = You get one life and 5% health. (Gag code. Reference: in Doom, by using this code, the player is given all weapons and keys.) DEBUG = Debug mode. (Displays Episode, Level, and X and Y coordinates for that level.) KIERAN = Adds 30 seconds of time in bonus stages. (Note: Default time is 30 total seconds.) COLIN = Maxed out life count. (Apparently, 20 lives is the max; NEUROTECH cheat grants life but doesn't increase life count.) SKYNEWS = 30 stars at end of level and 20,000 egg bonus every 3 Episodes. - cheatbook.de (This is very noticeable after you finish a level.) Undocumented features/behavior Taking a screenshot is the F10 key. However, this function is very sensitive as holding the key creates a lot of .PCX images, even for a split second!
