The VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Driver is used to utilize the DMA operation of your Hard disk/CD-ROMs drives in order to release the I/O loading from the CPU. The driver will be copied to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS and the related registry tree will be set. . ************************ ** Enable/Disable DMA ** ************************ The DMA mode is the default setting. Turn off the DMA setting by running "SETUP.EXE" again and selecting the "Enable/Disable DMA" button to disable the DMA mode. *************************** ** Driver Uninstallation ** *************************** To remove the "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Driver", select the "Uninstall" button. The driver will be completely removed from the sytsem. 4) Windows NT Driver ************************* ** Driver Installation ** ************************* Click the SETUP.EXE program and select the "Install" button to install the "VIA IDE Bus Master Driver" automatically on your Windows NT system. The driver will copied to \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and the related registry tree will be set. Follow the procedure listed below to complete the installation. a) Select the "SCSI Adapters" icon on the "Control Pannel" b) Select the "Add.." button on the "Drivers" sheet. c) Select the "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Driver" and click "OK" button. d) Reboot the system. ************************ ** Enable/Disable DMA ** ************************ The DMA mode is the default setting. Turn off the DMA setting by running "SETUP.EXE" again and selecting the "Enable/Disable DMA" button to disable the DMA mode. *************************** ** Driver Uninstallation ** *************************** Remove the "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Device Driver" by running the "SETUP.EXE" again to uninstall the driver. This operation will not start "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Device Driver". Restart it latter if it is necessary. After the reboot, this operation will not start the default "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI) Dual-channel PCI IDE Controller" driver. To totally remove the "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Device Driver" follow the steps listed below. a) Select the "SCSI Adapters" icon on the "Control Pannel" c) Select the "VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Driver". b) Select the "Remove" button on the "Drivers" sheet. d) Reboot the sytem. 5) Package Version Identity Check the distribuation version and release date against the DATE\TIME displayed with dir/p command, e.g : SETUP EXE 59,392 09-06-97 1:01a SETUP.EXE The time column is 1:01a, meaning the package distribution version is 2.1.1 and the date column is 09-06-97, meaning the release date was Sep. 06 '97. 6) Notes * Install the CD-ROM on a different channel than the hard drive due to performance issues. If VCD or DVD plays abnormally on the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM that is on the same channel as the hard drive, setup the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM on a separate channel. * Run the ATAPI ZIP 100MB setup program first for WinNT 3.51/4.0 in order to use ZIP ATAPI 100MB normally on your system. If you run the VIA Bus Master setup program *first* and *then* the ATAPI ZIP 100MB setup program, the VIA Bus Master driver will be disabled after the installation. Use the following steps to disable the ATAPI ZIP 100MB driver and enable the VIA Bus Master driver again. 1. Double click the "Devices" icon from Control Panel. 2. Select the service for IDE/ATAPI ZIP drive. (ex. imgatapi) 3. Press the "Startup" button and select "Disabled". 4. Press "OK" and reboot computer.
