NetShow is a platform for streaming multimedia over networks that range from
low-bandwidth dial-up Internet connections to high-bandwidth switched local area
networks. From simple audio to sophisticated interactive Web-based applications,
companies use NetShow to offer new streaming content for applications such as
training, corporate communications, entertainment, and advertising to users all
over the world.
Streaming allows computers to play rich multimedia over low bandwidth networks like
the Internet without having to download the content and then play it. The content
starts playing after only a few seconds.
NetShow content can range from simple audio
to illustrated audio (synchronized slide shows) to
video to
Web-based applications.
Microsoft NetShow is now part of
Microsoft Site Server and is bringing multimedia
streaming capabilities to Microsoft's comprehensive server product for managing and
enhancing Web sites. By including NetShow 2.0 in Site Server, Microsoft is helping
companies better meet the business needs of their intranet and Internet Web sites
and focus on maximizing the return on their Web site investments. NetShow 2.0 will
continue to remain a free download as well as be available as part of Microsoft
Site Server.
See the NetShow
Web Site often for the most current information on NetShow.
