NetShow uses Windows NT security to control who can administer NetShow Server. To administer NetShow Server, you must belong to either the Administrators or the NetShow Administrators group on the computer running NetShow Server. The NetShow Administrators group is created when you install NetShow Server.
Use Windows NT User Manager to add user accounts to these groups. To add an account, you must log on to the local computer as Administrator, or have your system administrator log on to the computer to add accounts.
Which user accounts you add to these groups depends on whether the computer running NetShow Server is a member of a Windows NT domain and whether you plan to administer NetShow Server from remote computers.
- If the computer running NetShow Server is a member of a Windows NT domain, add your domain account to the Administrators or NetShow Administrators group on the computer running NetShow Server. After your account is added to the group, you can administer NetShow Server from any computer in the domain.
- If the computer running NetShow Server is not a member of a Windows NT domain, add your local user account to the Administrators or NetShow Administrators group on the computer running NetShow Server. After your account is added to the group, you can administer NetShow Server locally by logging on using your local account. To administer NetShow Server from a remote computer, you must create an account on the remote computer that is identical to the account on the computer running NetShow Server. You can then administer the NetShow computer from the remote computer.
- If the computer running NetShow Server is a member of a Windows NT domain but you plan to administer it remotely from a computer that is not a member of the domain, add both your domain account and your local user account to the Administrators or NetShow Administrators group on the computer running NetShow Server. After these accounts are added to the group, you can administer NetShow Server locally by logging on using either account. To administer NetShow Server from a remote computer, you must create an account on the remote computer that is identical to the account on the computer running NetShow Server. You can then administer the NetShow computer from the remote computer.
