Arabic Features in Microsoft Exchange 4.0 Arabic Client
-------------------------------------------------------

Column Alignment in the Viewer
------------------------------

You can view your mail information in the main Viewer with three
different column alignments: Left, Right, and Context. The setting can
be made by choosing the Columns command from the View menu in the
Viewer and selecting an option in the Columns Alignment list.

This setting affects the columns in the main Viewer of the Microsoft
Exchange client, in the Remote Viewer columns, and in the Find window.

Edit Setting
------------

This setting determines the direction of the data in the message
heading. To set left-to-right direction and left alignment choose the
Latin command from the Edit menu. To set right-to-left direction and
right alignment choose the Arabic command from the Edit menu. This
setting affects the direction of the data in all message and post
headings.

The default paragraph direction in a new message or post or a replied/
forwarded message or post is left-to-right with the Latin setting,
and right-to-left with the Arabic setting.

Arabic Rich Text Edit
---------------------

The Arabic Microsoft Exchange Client uses the bi-directional (BiDi)
rich edit engine in the message body. This engine includes advanced
editing capabilities that were previously available only in Arabic Word
for Windows and Write applications. These features include character
and paragraph formatting which did not exist in prior Arabic Mail 3.2
clients.

Character Formatting
--------------------

The user can select any existing font with any available size to
compose messages. Various character formatting features, such as bold,
italic, underline, strikeout, and colors, are available. This applies
to both Latin and Arabic text. Character formatting can be done from
the Formatting toolbar in a message form, or in the Font dialog box
which is available from the Format menu.

Paragraph Formatting
--------------------

The user can create and format different paragraphs of text independent
of each other. Features like left-to-right and right-to-left paragraph
direction; left, center and right alignment; and bulleted and indented
paragraphs are available. Paragraph formatting can be done from the
Formatting toolbar in a message form, or in the Paragraph dialog box
which is available from the Format Menu.

Font Display and Replacement
----------------------------

All fonts available in the system can be used in composing a message
in the Arabic client. These fonts include various script (code-page)
classifications such as Arial(Arabic). In general, Western script is
used for Latin text and Arabic script is used for Arabic text. Arabic
script includes Latin characters, but Western script does not include
Arabic characters.

The user can replace the font(script) of a single run of text, Latin
or Arabic, with a different font(script) of any kind. However, if the
selected text includes more than one language, the user can apply a new
font face, but the script will not be changed. This behavior preserves
the display of all text in its original language, while using the new
Font Face.

Arabic Text Find and Replace
----------------------------

The text find-and-replace mechanism in Arabic rich edit allows the user
to find or replace Latin and Arabic words in the message body. The
Match Diacritics, Match Kashida, and Match Alef Hamza options have been
added to the Find and Replace dialog boxes to allow the user to find
words by matching the diacritics and/or kashidas/alef hamzas in them.

Arabic Sorting
--------------

Arabic sorting is applied to sort list items according to the Arabic
sort order. This displays items starting with neutral and numeric
characters first in an ascending list, followed by items starting with
Latin characters and then items starting with Arabic characters. The
lists affected by this sort order include the Address Book, and Folder
and Message lists in the Viewer.

Spelling
--------

The Arabic client ships with an English spelling checker. However, it
will recognize and use the Arabic spelling checker included with Arabic
Office for Windows 95.

General Edit Fields
-------------------

In Arabic Mail 3.2 clients, certain edit fields, such as mailbox,
password, and address, could contain text only in Latin. In the Arabic
Microsoft Exchange client, this restriction no longer applies because
the operating system is designed to support multiple languages in all
its edit fields. However, to preserve compatibility with Latin-only
mail systems and with mail gateways, we do not encourage the use of
Arabic text in these fields. Users and administrators should make sure
that only Latin data is being used in the mailbox, password, and
address edit fields.

Arabic Limitations When Connected to the Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The following is a list of known limitations that affect messaging
with Arabic text using the Microsoft Exchange Arabic client connected
to the Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0. These limitations are expected
to be resolved in future releases of the Microsoft Exchange Server.
To find out the version of the Microsoft Exchange Server that might
resolve these limitations, contact the Microsoft subsidiary or
distributor nearest you (see Support section below).

- Arabic messages sent from the Arabic Mail 3.2 client to the Microsoft
Exchange Arabic client through the MS Mail Connector will have
unreadable Arabic text in the message heading. The message body,
  however, is preserved.
- Arabic messages sent from the Microsoft Exchange Arabic client to
the Arabic Mail 3.2 client through the MS Mail Connector will have
unreadable Arabic text in the message heading and message body.
- Arabic users who are migrated from Arabic Mail 3.2 postoffices to
Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0 will not have proper Arabic display
names and template information when viewed in the Address Book of
the Microsoft Exchange Arabic client. However, all English names and
  information will be preserved.
- Arabic names and template information of users on Arabic Mail 3.2
postoffices that are synchronized with the Microsoft Exchange Server
address list will not be readable in the Address Book of the
Microsoft Exchange Arabic client. However, English names and
  information will be preserved.
- Arabic messages sent to an Internet recipient through the Internet
Mail Connector might have unreadable message headings when opened by
the recipient's mail client. The message body, however, can be
preserved when using the MIME format, provided the recipient's mail
  client supports that format.
- Error messages which are returned from some Internet mail servers
could have unreadable Arabic text in them.
- Error messages from the Microsoft Exchange Server regarding
undeliverable Arabic fax messages might contain unreadable Arabic
text in the message heading and body.

------------------------
Other Arabic Limitations
------------------------

- Editing in rich text controls used within forms created by the
Microsoft Exchange Forms Designer is limited to English only.
However, editing in plain text controls will support Arabic.
- Advanced searching for messages and rules by date are limited to
  Gregorian date format.
