Special Episode 7: The Scar (Part Twelve)

13. Keeping With The Pace
The Scar
A Mortal Kombat Fanfiction
A.N. Hey again guys!
Like I said this chapter will be a direct continuation of the previous one so we're picking up right where Kitana and Kyle left off in his chambers. Sorry again that I broke up that scene into two parts.
Mai: Anything to make the shilling longer, right?
This chapter's a little bit on the shorter side, I know that everyone prefers longer chapters so to make up for my extremely flaky update schedule I figured I'd put as much effort as I could into increasing chapter length again, hopefully permanently. BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN HERE, simply because it's just kind of the remaining part of the previous chapter that got cut out at the last minute.
ALSO, I just thought of something, I have a question that's been bugging me which I think I need to ask all of you.
I've already stated that a sequel is planned for The Scar which it STILL IS, but I thought of something and I'm just offering it to you guys as an option.
James: Kill the sequel. Is that an option?
Jessie: *elbows James*
Would you guys prefer that when I hit the end of this first fanfiction, I mark it as complete and make the sequel a new story? Or should I not even bother making a new story and just continue to add chapters to this one? If I did that I'd probably change the title at some point to what I want the sequel to be called but it would all be in the same fanfiction.
The only problem with the second option is that the chapter count would get very high, like one hundred plus chapters since it technically is two stories in one fanfic. But the problem with the first option is that some people might get lost in the translation that The Scar would be done and they would have to follow me to the sequel which would have a different name and they might not find it.
I dunno it's just something I've been thinking about lately and I wanted to know all of your opinions on this matter. So let me know?
All: Separate them!
Sonic: If you keep adding chapters, we'll be riffing this thing for the
rest of our lives!
ANYWAYS, Disclaimer: I don't own anything except my OC and plot elements.
Emi: And that is how you write a disclaimer.
Amy: ...even though some of the plot elements were straight up ripped
from 9's story...
AND NOW MY CHILDREN! We Resume...
There was a short interlude after that, where both man and woman fell silent. Kyle's nervousness continued to increase albeit in a positive way, being around her seemed to do many things to his spirit.
James: And his--
Sonic: We got it!
He felt strengthened almost by her presence, like the injuries on his tired body went practically unnoticed now. "What is that?" Kitana broke him out of his thoughts and he traced her eyes to the source of what she inquired about.
His vest laying on the floor where he left it, "Oh, it's my armor."
Jessie: Oh, the plot armor.
Kitana tilted her head, "It looks quite different from the suits our soldiers wear." Kyle figured she was talking about the guards of the tournament.
"Well, it's not from around here." He shifted in his seat to turn in the direction of heavy garment. "I brought it from my home."
Keiko: You know, the thing that he still needs to pay his mortgage on...
"Earthrealm?" She finished for him and he nodded. There was a pang in Kitana's chest at the reminder of what Realm he fought for, but she pushed it aside. "It looks...strange." For lack of a better word. "Does it assist you in combat?"
Cassy: You mean "Kombat". Can't believe that we're still having to correct this, man.
Kyle almost laughed as he was just contemplating this a while ago. "It's kept me alive before."
Amy: Conveniently.
Cassy: Plot armor's a hell of a thing.
The Princess leaned forward, eyes switching back and forth between himself and the rest of his attire. "You looked very relieved to remove it, and you seem to be much more tired then you were my last visit. Are you sure it doesn't hinder you more than it helps?" This was both an honest question and a slight prod for information. Kitana had seen this boy fight, but also his Earthrealm technologies seemed to assist him a great deal during the tournament; like during his fight with the servant Reptile. How good of a fighter truly was he?
Emi: A lucky one.
James: Unlike Cassy, he doesn't get nine lives.
Cassy: I think I'm down to three lives now. Kira stole one from me.
He raised and lowered a shoulder, "Today just...was a long day." Although his 'Liu Kang" inflicted bruises were almost forgotten thanks to her, the mention of his tired demeanor reignited the aching in his body. "It's been a while since I went a full night without sleep, and had to fight constantly the same day." He said sarcastically.
Mai: That... isn't sarcasm...
At that Kitana looked him over again, his shoulders were more slumped unlike last night when they were strict with proper posture, and he leaned back in his seat a bit almost lazily. She had definitely forgotten about how she could go several days without sleep and still perform with moderate efficiency being trained to do so. But maybe she overestimated what humans of Earthrealm were capable of.
James: Or overestimated that cretin.
This worried her a bit, she was undoubtedly attracted to this human.
Emi: We know. You wouldn't quit kissing his butt.
But right now he was showing signs of weakness that any opponent, "Including myself." She thought, could exploit. What if he wasn't going to win this tournament?
Amy: Is this another forced "worry for him" moment? Because he still hasn't earned that.
Her blood felt like it turned to ice at the thought of that, it hadn't even crossed her mind until this point. What if this man whom she had been so eager to meet before, died in his next battle?
Sonic: *shrugs*
Cassy: *snickers*
Jessie: Again, he killed people. He killed people before he came here.
This bears repeating here.
Or simply lost and was eliminated from the tournament and sent back home, either way he would be gone. The thought that he wouldn't have been the warrior suitor she hoped he'd be crossed her mind, but more so just the image of his lifeless body lying before her as his blood ran out over the white sheet on the Mortal Kombat stage.
All: ...
James: And?
Everyone else: Pfft!
She actually shook her head, trying to rid that image from her mind, "No, he is a good fighter, I've seen it. Something must've happened today that has simply weakened him a bit. He'll be back in top form soon I know it."
It was then she knew that even though she wished she could stay longer and learn more about him, it was time for her to go. But she needed it to seem as if she wasn't concerned, so grabbing up her mask from the table she stood, "Well then perhaps it's best if I come back another night instead."
Right away it seemed like everything she worried herself with about his stature vanished as he instantly sat upright and his eyes shot open confused, "What? Why?"
Keiko: Because you're practically dying, you moron. Is your own
horniness more important than your health?
Sonic: Yes. Yes, it is.
The idea of her leaving had him on edge almost as if he had never been exhausted in the first place. It helped warm the chilled feeling she received when thinking about his possibly death, but she couldn't let him protest. This was for his own safety, she could get all the sleep she needed in her chambers tomorrow. But he had to be at his training grounds and wondering the island ready for a fight. He would have no time to rest if she stayed another night just talking. So she put up her hand quietly silencing him. "You must sleep, you're days on the island are going to be filled with much more activity as the tournament continues. I will return again, but before that time I want you to rest."
He wouldn't like it, and neither did she but this was her way of helping to protect him. Until she was sure he could protect himself.
"But..." The defeated look on his face made it a bit difficult for her to keep her 'rest assured' look, but that quickly changed when he said, "Sleep is for the weak."
Cassy: Yeah, "I'll rest when I'm dead" bit definitely doesn't fly in that universe, dude.
Before she could stop it, a laugh jumped from her throat and evolved into a further giggle at his foolery. And with her laughing at it, he smiled up at her, that same damn look that seemed to completely heat the icy feeling her blood melting over her heart.
Mai: What kind of convoluted prose...?
Kitana really couldn't explain why such a simple look and act had such an affect on her internally. It continued to feel like there were many irritating butterflies just soaring around in her belly the longer she made eye contact with him.
Sonic: That's called a stomach bug, right?
Fighting it back however she said, "It is also for warriors who need to be ready for a fight." Her grin calmed to a softer look and she held her mask in both hands by her front.
Her statement again made Kyle feel slightly deflated,
Emi: Insert penis joke here.
but not in despair this time and his gaze wondered to the floor with a slackening in his seat. At least she was leaving on a lighter note but he was still depressed this night for the two of them was coming to an end so quickly.
"Could've been worse I gu-" His thought was cut off as he felt her soft fingers suddenly tilt his chin up to return his eyes back to Kitanas. Brown orbs practically met their mirror as she leaned down ever so slightly to be closer to him.
Jessie: This is supposed to be romantic. I'm imagining giant glass marbles instead of eyes here.
Kyle had never been this close to a grown woman before. Of course he had dated in high school but that was no where near as close to what this was.
Emi: Because he hasn't been near someone who was unique before.
Amy: Seriously, if you're going to do a love interest... don't make
any of their previous romances obsolete. The "better than the others that
I've dated" thing is so tired.
Keiko: I could only let it slide if the last relationship was an
abusive one.
Amy: Oh, that's very true.
And his heart responded by picking up speed the closer she drew to him.
James: And then it burst.
His world disappeared,
James: Oh, shit, I was kidding!
Jessie: Yeah, those words sort of imply that a coma's coming. Either that
or death.
all he could focus on was her as everything else was covered in a haze, her face looked even more beautiful in the soft glow of the fire and with the less distance now.
Cassy: Hope that's because she isn't literally on fire.
Emi: I didn't do it.
A moment was an eternity to him as he took in her flawless features, those full pink lips less than a foot away, he couldn't help but steal several glances at them not discreetly. And yes, Kitana noticed.
Suddenly her chin tilted up and Kyle's heart stopped.
Mai: How are you still alive, then?
Sonic: My heart skipped a beat.
Mai: You should get that checked out. I think that's probably a heart murmur or
something.
"Sleep for me." She said breaking the silence with a tiny whisper.
Amy: "For"? Not "with"?
Keiko: I'm utterly surprised.
His body was so tense, he hadn't noticed it until he began to relax upon the realization that where his mind was going had not been the reality of the situation. "And I will see you again, tomorrow." She stated before pulling back restoring the appropriate personal space of the two. "Until I return." She left him with a proceeded to walk by him, almost sensually pulling her fingers across the underside of his chin and when they were gone Kyle longingly missed their smooth touch.
But all he could do after that was turn and watch in stunned silence as she walked out his door, a satisfied smirk on her face.
Kitana's skills of seduction were not to be trifled with, despite never having a man she was no fool when it came to sexuality and knew how to bend men to her will if need be. All this was, was just a simple little gesture as insurance to get him to accept her decision to leave and hopefully he would get the much needed sleep his body clearly required.
She however didn't anticipate what an affect it would have on the young man, and after the door was closed behind him. Kyle spoke to himself, "I am gonna have some dreams tonight." He emphasized the word 'dreams.'
James: Here come the wet dreams, ladies and Sonic.
Sonic: *flatly* Can't wait to hear about the raging morning wood.
Everyone except Jessie and James: *shudders*
Day 9 Of The Mortal Kombat Tournament: Waterfalls
"Forty days!?" Johnny Cage voice rang out in confusion, "What the Hell do you mean forty days? We've been here for like a week!"
Sonya shook her head, herself, Johnny, Liu, Stryker and Raiden had gathered after she contacted each of them to inquire about it.
"It's what HQ said, apparently time in Earthrealm has been moving much faster then it has been here. So adding in today, we've been missing for about a month and a half."
Stryker, shook his head, "I don't get it, how's that even possible?"
Amy: Even though... they're still in Earthrealm...? Or did they get sent to Outworld when we weren't looking?
Raiden interjected, "We are in a different Realm, time works differently in each aspect of dimension. Think of your Earth's timezone's only on a grander scale."
Sonic: I guess we weren't lookin'.
Emi: Then again, we were told that the island threw out all concepts of
time.
Cassy: Yeah, that and I think that the island's the closest place to
Outworld, but it isn't in Outworld. Y'know... for a thunder god, Raiden
sure gets a bunch of stuff wrong. Oh. Oops. *nervous laugh*
"Listen I need to find Jax and get him out of here." Sonya stated, "Yes I want to help fight in the tournament but Jax has been here even longer then we have which means he's been missing longer too. He has a family at home."
"We all have families at home." Liu said, "Yes we will help you look for your friend, but we must stay focused on what our real mission is here. Just because more time will pass in Earthrealm doesn't mean we can't keep with our pace now.
Keiko: Or create a title drop out of nowhere.
We must put aside our desire to explain to our loved ones what has happened, no one can leave this island until the tournament is won." He finished firmly.
But before any one else could comment, Stryker turned to Liu and asked, "Is that what you're gonna tell the kid?"
And with that Liu heard the crunch of anothers footsteps on the dirt behind him, and peering over his shoulder he saw Kyle approaching. Looking well rested, suited up with everything and his mask on his belt. a slight spring in his step too.
Cassy: We all wonder why.
James: Pfft!
"What's going on guys? Stryker told me to come down on the walkie." He approached them and all the other combatants suddenly realized what they had to tell him. Each one was suddenly very aware of how young he was
Jessie: *annoyed* Oh, for fuck's sake!
James: It finally got under her skin.
Jessie: And for damn good reason! It's like you said, James; he killed
people in the past. Why the hell are they coddling him so goddamned much?!
Emi: Because it's supposed to show that he turned a new leaf.
Jessie: *scoffs*
Amy: Oh, and this doesn't make any sense. The group already knows who he
is. Heck, Raiden even called him a child when he first saw the guy! They
should already know this stuff!
Keiko: They took an amnesia potion.
and how his family would react to his disappearance.
Mai: Even though we didn't get any mention of family members until how many chapters later...?
Johnny put his hands on his hips, even he knew that this was going to suck. Telling him that he has been missing for much longer than any of them thought which would lead to what his parents were probably going through.
Sonic: Oh. Now we're thinking about the parents.
Liu also knew this would be hard on the boy even though he had it hard already,
Emi: *picks up a tiny violin* Someone dropped this...
but if anyone was going to tell him, Stryker had the right idea. It had to be him. "Kyle..." He hesitated, Liu Kang may have been tough on him during lessons, but he was still human and knew how to sympathize. "There's something you should know."
Kyle stopped before them all as they gave him sad looks and somber sideways glances, how do you tell someone your family won't see you again for months, maybe years depending on how long the tournament goes. And there's no way they can tell them that he's okay, or that he didn't run away and leave them or anything. How do you tell someone that to their family they're just gone?
Keiko: Even though he willingly jumped to join this tournament
without thinking.
Sonic: Oh, right, the first chapter did have him pack his stuff and
hightail it to the island, huh?
Cassy: Yep.
Confused and nervous, Kyle asked, "What?"
James: Let me do it. Kid, there's a small chance that you won't see your family ever again. But you have plot armor, so don't worry about it.
A.N. Yeeeeaa.
Again guys I'm sorry about the extended wait for the release of the second half of the chapter. (Which is why this is so short mind you, it's technically only half of a chapter, now that I think about it, maybe I should've just added it to the last one instead of making it an entirely new chapter xD Welp too late now lol)
Emi: So there's two halves of two different chapters? What?
But an epic stomach bug swept through my family and kicked our asses for a bit. BUT IM ALIVE AND WE'RE BACK.
All: *cringing*
Sonic: Oops. Didn't mean to jinx that.
Amy: That's no fun at all.
James: Like I said... we don't want the author to die.
I know my release dates seem like nothing but lies now but I'm working on that. It's hard these days because job problems and such and I'm pretty much penniless. But I'll figure something out in the future.
Jessie: We know, life calls. Nothing wrong with that.
Cassy: I know that this guy keeps beating himself up when he gets late
with his updates, but... seriously, stuff happens.
Hopefully you guys enjoyed what we had here, and I hope your excited for more. We're about to get into the nitty gritty of the story soon. We're at the slow points right now kind of but its gonna pick up :) And to all the people who have sent me characters that they would like to appear in the story, I still say I don't know yet if I'll need any, but I haven't forgotten and will let you guys know.
Mai: Oh, please don't let it be like those Sonic stories that have a ton of terrible OCs...
And please do take into account what I said in the authors note above. What is your guys's opinion on the sequel ideas? Please let me know in a review or some other form, it would make my life so much easier.
Keiko: Unless you're making a giant compilation book... separate them.
But again I hope you guys liked it and I hope to see you in a review or in the next chapter. Which will be longer! And released sooner! Seriously this time lol.
Next Chapter: Picked Off
Emi: Is it really longer?
Sonic: Yeah, somewhat. Least we're almost done for now.
Jessie: Oh, good. My ass is getting sore here.
Sonic: And thanks for that information.
